Kempf, James Born 3/16/23 in Page, ND, moved to Humboldt, MN in 1926, graduating from Hallock High School in 1941. Attended the U of M from 1941-43, was a LT in the Army Air Corps 1943-45. He was a navigator and flew 35 missions on a B24 for the 15th Air Force in Bari, Italy. He graduated from the U of M Law School in 1948. Served as Bloomington Village attorney from 1953-59, incorporating the City of Bloomington. Served on the Bloomington School Board from 1967-73 as a Chairman. Presided over the expansion of the Bloomington School System, he was a director of the MN School Board Association. Served on the first board of the Hennepin County Vocational Technical Schools. Served as secretary of the Metropolitan Sports Commission 1954-78, planning and developing the Metropolitan Stadium and Ice Arena. Member of the Masonic Bloomington Lodge #340, Zuhrah Temple Shrine, Bloomington Shriners Club, Bloomington Lions Club, American Legion, VFW, Bloomington Businessmen's Assn. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church for 60 years and a chairman of the Church Council. Preceded in death by parents, Ralph & Emma Kempf; brothers, Ray, Berney and EmRal Kempf. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of 65 years; children, Anita Kempf, Douglas Kempf and Richard Kempf; grandchildren, Allan, Lucas, Paige, Nathan and Emma; brother, Don. Jim was Carol's care- giver and a 6-year survivor of pancreatic cancer. Drove for the blind, Meals On Wheels, he was the attorney for Lutheran Social Services and Children's Home Society. "If you would ask him his favorite thing to do, he would probably say babysitting my grandchildren tops the list." Funeral service Friday, Jan. 18, 11 AM, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 1701 W. Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington.
