Vanek, Mary L. (Sheehan) age 93, formerly of Edina, passed away peacefully at Friendship Village of Bloomington Care Center on March 12, 2016, with her daughter at her side. Preceded in death by husband Gerald and beloved sister Joan. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Gary Stevens of Bloomington, MN, and sons John of Rockwell City, IA and Jim of Chicago, IL. Also survived by special niece Mary, nephews Mark and John, other relatives and many special friends. Mary was a gentle woman with a simple demeanor and a passion to live life to the fullest each day. She had an unwavering faith in God and a desire to put others before herself. Her kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness touched the lives and hearts of many. Her family and friends will always be thankful for the gift of sharing in her life. A Memorial Mass will be held Sat., May 7, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Church of St. Patrick, 6820 St. Patrick's Lane, Edina. Visitation one hour prior to service with luncheon to follow mass. As Mary's body was donated for research, a Private Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery will be held at a later date. Donations made in Mary's name are preferred to St. Mary's Health Clinics in c/o Sisters of St. Joesph of Carondelet Ministries Foundation, 1884 Randolph Ave, St. Paul, MN 55105.
