Carlson, G. William "Bill" Age 72, of St. Paul, passed away on February 12, 2016. Preceded in death by parents, Bert and Bernice Carlson. G.W. was a beloved professor emeritus of History and Political Science at Bethel University for 46 years. He challenged thousands of students to think critically and pursue life long learning. As an active member at Central Baptist Church in St. Paul he taught numerous Sunday school classes, chaired committees and led small group studies. For the past 15 years he was the founder and editor of The Baptist Pietist Clarion. He was active in St. Paul politics for over 45 years and was proud to have served on the Saint Paul School Board from 1986-1996. He also chaired and was active in numerous campaigns for city and state offices. He lived out the calling from Micah 6:8 - act justly, love mercy and walk humbly. He was giving of his time and energy in his profession, politics and community. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather he will be greatly missed by those who knew him. Survived by wife, Cathy; son, Ian (Michelle) Carlson; daughter, Sara (Matt) Koehn; grandchildren, Nathan, Nora, Samuel Carlson and Shannon, Alex Koehn; sister, Bonnie (Phil) Linden; many family and friends. Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, February 28, 2 pm at Benson Great Hall, Bethel University, 3900 Bethel Dr., Arden Hills.
