Rengers, Alfreda Smith Age 87 of Victoria, went to be with Jesus and her beloved husband Dan on Jan. 25, 2016. Alfreda was born on Oct. 3, 1928 among the wild and wonderful mountains of W.VA in the town of Richwood. After graduating from Richwood High, Alfreda enrolled in Glenville (W.VA) State College. It was there that she met her future husband Dan Rengers. Dan had the distinction of being voted "Lil Abner" for GSC's very first Sadie Hawkins Days. His future wife Alfreda Smith Taylor was his "Daisy Mae". Alfreda was also the Homecoming Queen her senior year at GSC. After graduating with Bachelor of Arts degrees, Lil Abner and Daisy Mae were married on June 10, 1951.They then moved to Portsmouth, OH where they both worked as teachers. In 1955 Alfreda and Dan moved to Hamilton, OH where Dan took a job with the Pillsbury Co. Another move with the Pillsbury Co. was made to New Albany, IN in 1962. In 1967 they moved again with Pillsbury to "The North Pole" as Alfreda described MN and settled in Minnetonka. Alfreda took a job at Mtka. High as a librarian's assistant until her retirement. Alfreda Rengers' "Heavens on Earth" were her cabins on Webb Lake in Hackensack, MN and her home on Sanibel Island, FL. Here Alfreda and Dan loved to always include their families, friends and pets. Alfreda's interests were many but her favorite was walking. Her favorite place to walk was the beach of Sanibel Island, FL where she logged many miles for relaxation and the love of the outdoors. Alfreda has been described as outgoing, funny, kind and generous. She was full of energy and hardworking. She maintained the households of her three residences all by herself. Family was most important to Alfreda and Dan. They maintained close relationships with their extended families. Dan and Alfreda were fond of their West Virginia roots and told many "stories" of their home state in the West Virginia tradition with family trips back to the Mountain State often. Alfreda and Dan were long time members of the Covenant Church in Excelsior, MN. Alfreda was preceded in death by her husband Dan C. Rengers, parents Ernest Taylor and Bessie Taylor, brother Wayne Taylor, sisters June Davis and Ruby Scott. She is survived by her children Debra (Zumbach) Rengers and (Jeff Pylka), Dani (John) Hennessy and Gary Rengers; grandchildren Andrew (Anna) Zumbach and Zeke (Mallory) Zumbach; loving sister Wanda (Bob) Milligan; nieces and nephews. A very special thanks to the wonderful staff, both past and present, of Emerald Crest of Victoria whose care and kindness were that of an extended family. Private family memorial planned for the summer. Huber Funeral & Cremation Services Excelsior Chapel 952-474-9595 huberfunerals.com
