Abbott, Robert K. Age 86, of Burnsville, formerly of Edina and Sun City, AZ, died peacefully March 23, 2009, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born July 17, 1922, Hamilton, Ohio, served in WWII with U.S. Navy, civil engineer with Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and longtime civic and community volunteer. Loved all sports, avid golfer, kind-hearted family man. Graduated West High School, attended University of Minnesota, graduated University of Michigan, 1944. Member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Imogene; brother, Lawrence Jr.; sister, Joanne. Survived by wife of 64 years, Patricia; sons, Robert Jr. (Susan) of Eagan and David (Ellen) of Welches, Ore., and daughters, Susan (Jim) Sharrow of Bloomington and Virginia (Tom) Aldrich of The Villages, Fla.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family appreciates the care provided by the staff at the Minnesota Veterans Home and Fairview Hospice. Memorials preferred to Fairview Hospice, Mpls. Private family services will be held at a later date.
