Appel, Robert Martin "Bob" age 82, of Edina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 17, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Patricia of 55 years and their three children, Lori Wildenberg (Tom), Todd Appel (Shelley), Keri Buisman (Terry); 9 grandchildren; and brother, William "Bill" Appel. During WWII Bob honorably served as a Corpsman in the Navy. He graduated with a Bachelor Science from the University of Minnesota. 1953 he achieved his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. While a student at the U of M Bob was a member of several honor societies, which included Iron Wedge, RhoChi and Phi Lambea Upsilon. He also belong to Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Bob was an Eagle Scout of Troupe 33 Westminster and was chosen as Minneapolis Mayor for a Day. At the beginning of his career, he was hired by Rowell Laboratories in Baudette, Minnesota where he established and directed the Research and Control Department. Following his employment in Baudette, his career path took him to Minneapolis where he became a partner in the family business, Appel Pharmacy. Bob also consulted for local pharmaceutical firms. As an Edina resident he was a member of the Edina Drug Commission and of Normandale Lutheran Church. He sang in the Normandale Senior Choir and served in the Health and Wellness Ministry. In retirement, he wrote faith-filled poetry and was published by his pen name Rockman. Bob was a loving husband, dad, father-in-law, and grandpa. His joyful smile, warm handshake and hearty laugh will be missed. He loved well and was loved by many. We look forward to being reunited in heaven. Memorials preferred to Normandale Lutheran Church Foundation, Normandale Choir or Glen Community Church Glen, MN. The Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 23rd at Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Road, Edina, MN 55436 at 11:00 AM. Visitation one hour prior to service.
