IL; many nephews, nieces and cousins throughout the country lovingly remember him. Born in Albion, MI, Dejunius traveled widely, lived for a time in Paris and Amsterdam as well as Chicago, IL and New York City. He settled in Minneapolis and soon became an integral part of the arts community. He was a photographer and filmmaker, produced several films in Minnesota and founded the Twin Cities International Black Film Festival which drew national attention during its five year run. Dejunius was witty and big hearted, a loyal friend, insatiably interested in issues affecting the black community, he encouraged us to learn from the work of venerable artists such as James Baldwin and Oscar Micheaux. He was always open to learning from and supporting the innovation of young artists. I love my friend. He went away from me. There's nothing more to say. The poem ends, Soft as it began, I loved my friend. - Langston Hughes Memorial service pending. Washburn-McReavy Davies Chapel 612-377-2203
