Mary Hill Smith
Smith, Mary Hill Our dear Mary, devoted wife, sister, mother, and grandmother died on September 6, 2019. All of us who knew her remember her love of life and her ability to spark joy in others. As she leaves this Earthly life, her legacy is rich and has had a profound impact on so many. She served on the Metropolitan Council, chairing the Transportation Committee. She was also Junior League of Minneapolis president, Wayzata School Board president, and member of the boards of the Guthrie Theater, Sheltering Arms, Minnetonka Art Center, among others. After retiring with her husband to Texas, Mary continued her community service there, enthusiastically. Mary is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Andrew Smith, her children Emily, Andrew (Jill Plumb-Smith) and Bradley (Rachel), eight grandchildren (Ansel, Isabel, Finnegan, Aidan, Brodan, Leyton, Callan, and Emmeline) and sister Jane McConnell. Memorial services will be held on Sept. 13 at 11am at St. Stephen's Church in Edina, and on Sept. 27 at 11am at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Dripping Springs, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Guthrie Theater Foundation or the NC Little Hospice, Edina.
