Ireton, Harry Age 83, of Minneapolis, died peacefully June 12th, 2019, after a long journey with Lewy body dementia. He traversed this disease with grace and humor. Born in Connecticut, Harry attended college at U Conn followed by grad school at the U of MN, where he earned his Ph.D. in psychology. He spent his career as a professor at the U in Pediatrics and Family Medicine - teaching, counseling and researching. He channelled his interest for both child and parent development into his Child Development Review screening and assessment tools. He encouraged parent/professional collaboration and pioneered the use of parent report. Harry loved adventure and the outdoors. He found fulfillment boating the St. Croix river, where he hosted friends and family on trips to "paradise" beach in Afton. He relished drives to Taylors Falls, always stopping for an old-fashioned donut at the Lindstrom Bakery on the way. He camped, canoed and climbed every rock he could, including Devils Tower. Harry embraced Toastmasters and cribbage. He remained thoughtful, quirky and witty through the end. Harry is survived by his three children, Heidi Vader (Peter), Bridget Herrmann (Joel), and Colin Ireton (Lori), 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, his twin brother, Howard (Renee), one niece, and four nephews. The family gratefully thanks the staff at Waters, Dr. Martha Nance, Dr. Richard Nash, Grace A Team, Grace Hospice and all his friends who kept coming to visit him even when his gift of gab and memory waned. A Celebration of Harry's Life will be at Waters on 50th, 3500 W. 50th St. Mpls., on Friday, July 12th, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers - memorials to WayToGrow.org please.
