Larson, Philip Seely passed away peacefully at home on June 28th after a spring cancer diagnosis. He was 74. Philip took great pride in being a brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He began his professional life as a curator at Walker Art Center. Philip was a prolific artist with works found in museums, public spaces, and private collections. He was a passionate art and architectural historian, a writer, and a college professor at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design for many years. Philip loved beauty where it could be found- in nature and in things created by people. He loved to travel, taking many trips with his family to places near and far. Philip had a brilliant mind and left behind family and friends that will miss his wit, storytelling, political satire, love of classical music, and expansive knowledge of art and history. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Miriam; daughters, Birgit (Chris Powers) and Ursula (Gabe Shapiro); grandsons, Kiran and Rory; siblings, Annette Benert and Paul Larson. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Friday, August 23rd 3:00 pm at the chalet at Elm Creek Park Reserve, 12400 James Deane Parkway, Maple Grove, MN 55369. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Forest Foundation to support the planting of trees throughout the country, including Superior National Forest.
