Bates, Marguerite R. (née Ward) born April 25, 1922, in Princeton, Minnesota to Stella D. O'Fallon Ward and Daniel J. Ward, died April 30, 2019 in Kingwood, Texas at 97. She is survived by daughters Mary Bock (David) of Kingwood, Texas, Kathleen Johnson (James) of Goliad, Texas, Barbara Tomerlin (Kenneth) of Stockdale, Texas, and Patricia Voyles (Douglas) of Boerne, Texas; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters-in-law and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alpheus A. Bates, seven brothers, four sisters-in-law, one granddaughter and one great-grandson. She grew up in Princeton, MN, graduated from St. Teresa's College in Winona, MN, then traveled the world as a military spouse. She was an accomplished pianist and continued her love of travel into her 80s. A funeral mass will be Wednesday, July 17, 11:00 am preceded by visitation at 10:30 am at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Anoka, MN. Burial will follow at 12:30 pm at Calvary Cemetery in Anoka. In lieu of flowers, please have Masses said for the repose of her soul, or send any memorial contributions to Catholic Relief Services.
