Penney, Polly A. died peacefully in her sleep on June 21st, a little more than two weeks after celebrating her 90th birthday. Polly is survived by her sister Kate Schumann of Port Townsend, WA, the two children of her 25 year marriage to Joe Kingman, Brant Kingman of Minneapolis, MN and Kate Wellington of Kittredge, CO, & by her three grandchildren Julian and Alondra Kingman and Robert Wellington, Jr. Polly was a graduate of Northrup School and attended Wheaton College in Norton, MA, but received her BA with honors from the U of M. Later in life she earned an MBA from Thunderbird School of International Management. Polly was a passionate advocate of education, the arts and gardening. Her first job after receiving her MBA was at Harvard's Center for Plant Conservation. When she returned to Minneapolis, she performed development services for Saint Catherine's , The Friend's School and Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Polly's interests were as deep as they were diverse: She was an active member or the Minnetonka Garden Club and the Plymouth Church. She was known for her devotion to gardening, for her enthusiasm for adventurous travel and for the wide circle of interesting friends she attracted. A celebration of Polly's life will be held later this summer.
