Finer, Fern Burnette Passed away on April 18th, 2019 in Novato, California at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by parents Erick and Agnes Brunsvold, brothers Maynard and Curtis, and husband Roscoe. She is survived by sons Gerald (Linda) and Ward (Nancy), daughters Janet (Ron) and Karen, and eight grandchildren. Fern Brunsvold was born in Kensett, Iowa on March 9th 1923, and grew up on the Brunsvold family farm near Hanlontown, Iowa. She attended Kensett high school, where she played French horn in the high school band, sang in the Glee club, and took part in athletics. She was selected Miss Kensett in 1939. Fern attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and graduated in 1945 from the Fairview School of Nursing in Minneapolis. She worked at Fairview Hospital as a surgical nurse until 1948 when she married Roscoe Finer and became a mother and a homemaker. As Roscoe was transferred during his career as a manager at Honeywell, the family moved from Minneapolis to Chicago in 1957, to New Jersey in 1966, and back to Minneapolis in 1968. Following the death of Roscoe in 2014, Fern moved to California to be closer to three of her children. Fern was active in church and community affairs. She especially enjoyed her 36 years of volunteer work at Fairview Hospital in Edina. She also liked entertaining at home, exercising, playing golf and going on family nature walks. After Roscoe's retirement in 1985, the couple was fortunate to travel to Europe, China, and throughout the United States. Fern was a quiet and loving mother and wife. Tireless in devotion to family, she was never anything but pleasant and kind. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Normandale Lutheran Church. Visitation at 3-5PM, Sunday, April 28th at the Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel. Memorial service at 11AM, Monday, April 29th at Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale, Road, Edina.
