Kaufman, Barbara Wallis age 85 of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2019. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel "Bing" A. Kaufman; daughters, Judith Jackson and Lyndia Brown; and brother, William Wallis. Survived by daughter, Donna Tingley; step-son, Terry Kaufman; nephew, William Wallis III; twenty-two grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Kaufman Sussman. Barbara received the Bush Leadership Fellowship and graduated Summa Cum Laude & Phi Beta Kappa from the University of MN; Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs (BA, MSW). Barbara devoted her life to improving conditions for individuals in need, especially women and children. Throughout her career she spent 35 years in Social Work Administration; was the Executive Director of Genesis II for Women & MN Association of Voluntary Agencies; and served as the Assistant Commissioner of Mental Health for the State of MN. Consistent with her dedication and commitment to the community, Barbara served in a variety of capacities for the following organizations: National Assn of Social Workers (State President & National Chair of Ethics committee); MN Board of Social Work (Board Member); MN Social Service Assn (President); Twin Cities Community Voice Mail (Board Chair); Family Alternatives (Board Member); People Inc. (Board Member); and Assn of Social Work Boards (Chair Exam Committee). Barbara earned the NASW Lifetime Achievement Award. Her passions included music, reading and internet. Memorial service 11:30 am, MONDAY, April 29th at Temple Israel, 2323 Fremont Ave. S., Minneapolis. Memorials preferred to the United Way and MPR. SHIVA 7:00pm on Monday at Temple Israel.
