Wencel, Arnold "Arnie" George born on February 7th, 1932 in Wheaton, MN to Fred & Lillian Wencel (Peterson), passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 19, 2019 after a long struggle with cancer and related medical complications. After being originally born in the country, he moved in his teens to South Minneapolis with his mother and family. He attended South High School. Later he joined the U.S. Navy which he served in for two years. After being honorably discharged he returned to the Twin Cities and worked at The Northern Pump Company. Subsequent to that, he became an electrician. He became a Master Electrician and member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union. The union was an important part of his life and he was a proud member serving actively during his career and even after into his retirement. He always loved going to union meetings and winning stuff like tickets to sports events. Arnie was always a huge State Fair fan and would attend more times every year than you could count to make sure he never missed anything. Political activity was important to him as he actively supported and was involved in the Minnesota DFL. Arnie was also active in the church as a Sunday school teacher and usher for many years at Elim Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale, MN and later attending Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, MN. Arnie enjoyed playing the harmonica and was a member of the "Silvertones" harmonica group. He always kept himself very busy tinkering with things and conducting projects around the house. He is survived by his wife (Mary), son (David), sister (Marge Tillery), Half Sister (Joy Lewandowski), Half Brother (LaMoyne Wencel), Nephews (Gary Tillery and Robert Kellerman) and Nieces (Rita Palmer and Sherry Harbord) and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by sisters (Rose Becker), (Leona Manthey) and (Edna Kellerman). A funeral service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley on April 26th at 1:30 pm.
