Welte, Larry (Lawrence) Age 81 of Bloomington passed away unexpectedly on January 7, 2019. Born in Danbury, IA. Larry graduated from the University of St. Thomas. He married his wife of 56 years, Janet (Anderson) in September of 1962. He had a successful 40 year career at Investors Diversified Services (IDS) now American Express and was a founding and active member of St. Edward's Catholic Church. Larry was a devoted husband, father, Bapa and friend. He adored his family. Full of life, he was always there to lend a hand or advice. Larry was an avid golfer and popular member at Minnesota Valley Country Club, serving as president in 2005. As a hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed countless pheasant hunting trips to SD & IA as well as fishing trips to northern MN & Canada. Big Lar loved the occasional cigar and a good scotch. He enjoyed lounging (catnapping) by the pool. Famous for his popcorn and holiday light displays, Larry welcomed everyone into his life. In addition to his wife Jan, he is survived by children, Michele, Mike (Tina), Nancy, and Sheri O'Brien; grandchildren, Miranda, Emma, and Meredith Welte, Brendan and Jack O'Brien; sister, Alice Paulsen; many nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Memorials suggested to Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial, Monday, January 14 at 11 AM at St. Edward's Catholic Church, 9401 Nesbitt Ave S., Bloomington.
