Mergens, Dorothy Andrea "Dodie" (Witt) age 87, of Minneapolis passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, December 14, 2018. She was born March 19, 1931 in Minneapolis to Roy and Dorothy "Dot" (Zeuch) Witt. She was a graduate of The Northrop Collegiate School in 1949. She was also a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in journalism and a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She married Cyril "Bud" Mergens on June 19, 1954 where they lived in Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota and then eventually moved to Warroad where her husband's law office resided. Dodie's grandfather and father owned Witt's Market House (705 Hennepin Ave.) in Minneapolis. Dodie was a fervent reader, enjoyed gardening, volunteering and was a big supporter of libraries, volunteering at the Warroad, Minnesota library for several years. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed traveling to Europe and the Bahamas as well as a glass of Riesling on the deck of her cabin. She enjoyed spending time at her family cabin on Deer Lake as well as her cabins in Lake of the Woods, Minnesota. She also enjoyed being close to the ocean in Vero Beach, Florida, where she and her husband lived for many years. She is survived by her three children: Lesley Mergens-Schneider of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Katherine "Kit" (Mergens) Thiewes of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Cyril "Paul" Mergens of Becker, Minnesota; her four nieces and nephews: Frederick Witt, Warren "Renny" Witt Jr., Shelley Witt and Linda Witt; her five grandchildren: Jordan Thiewes, Taylor Thiewes, Teele Schneider, Emily Schneider and Sophie Mergens; and her great-grandchild: Aaron Thiewes. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Warren and William Witt and her husband. Dodie's family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Arbor Lakes Senior Living as well as the staff of Brighton Hospice for their care of Dodie. In lieu of a memorial service, the family asks that you make a donation in Dodie's name to an Alzheimer's Association of your choosing.
