McDonnell, Joan Elizabeth (nee Kleyne) Age 88 of Edina, died in her sleep on Oct. 30, 2018. Survived by son, David (Terrie) McDonnell; daughter, Carol (Kendall Larson) McDonnell; son, Michael (Julia) McDonnell; daughter, Susan McDonnell; son, William (Patricia) McDonnell; daughter, Elizabeth (Durk) Thompson; and thirteen grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by William McDonnell, her husband of 34 years; her parents, Cornelius and Marie Kleyne, and her sister, Mina Kleyne. Born January 11, 1930, she attended Central High School in St. Paul & the University of Minnesota. She met her future husband while working one summer at Arrowhead Lodge on Lake Kabetogama. They would go on to raise six kids in Edina. During that time she was a stalwart in her neighborhood bridge group and her Tuesday morning ladies golf league at Braemar. After the passing of her husband she split her time between Minnesota and Siesta Key, Florida. In her later years she would say that she spent her time playing golf, playing bridge and worrying about her children. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 21st, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 5071 Eden Avenue, Edina. Mass will begin at 10:30 am, with visitation starting one hour prior at the church. The family expresses its special thanks to the wonderful staff at Wealshire of Bloomington who gave Joan great, loving care in her final years. We are truly grateful for you.
