Vasaly, Carol Margaret (Campion) Age 96, of Mpls., died peacefully November 25, 2018. Preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Thomas Vasaly (2013). A truly remarkable woman, she was born December 13, 1921 in Owatonna, MN, graduated from high school at 16, after which she moved to Minneapolis where she attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota in Art Education. She met Thomas Vasaly (Little Falls) when both worked during their student years at Margaret Barry Settlement House in NE Mpls. They married soon after Tom joined the Navy at the beginning of WW II. After raising four children, she returned to teaching as art instructor for Regina High School in south Minneapolis. She cared deeply about art and was a gifted artist and writer, writing a novel (Adventure in Tuscany) in her 80s. She loved to travel and did so extensively, with family members, in the U.S. and in Italy, France, England and Ireland, where she visited the farm from which her grandfather Campion had emigrated. She was a longtime member of the American Association of University Woman (serving as Minneapolis chapter president 1988-90) and the DAR, and was a cojourner with the Sisters of St. Francis in Rochester. A woman of great style and elegance, she was also kind, loving, and generous, always thinking of others before herself. She is survived by her children Tom, Ann Vasaly (Richard Young), Mary Vasaly (Michael Wisneski), and Paul; her grandchildren Laura, Michael, and Thomas (Alexi) Wisneski and Madeleine Vasaly; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service in the spring of 2019. Donations in her memory may be made to the Minneapolis branch of the AAUW and the Sisters of St. Francis in Rochester, MN. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
