Balderson, Dr. Robert Pierce July 26, 1929 - October 24, 2018 Dr. Robert "Bob" Pierce Balderson, 89, dearly loved father, grandfather, and great grand- father, died peacefully in his sleep at Sunrise Home of Edina, Minnesota. Recently preceded in death by his wife, Denise, those left to mourn his passing are children, Robert Balderson, Jr. (wife Cindy) and their daughter and grandchildren, Eden Prairie, Minnesota; Cynthia Balderson Smith (husband Timothy) Las Cruces, New Mexico; and Scott Balderson San Francisco, California. Grandchildren, Adrianne Kleckner (husband Seth), Nathanael Smith, great-granddaughter, Zoey Kleckner, and Denise's children, Tammy Huttner (husband Steve) and Timothy Davis (wife Ellen) with their children and grandchildren. Bob, the only child of Robert Power and Irma Sipple Pierce Balderson, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from McKeesport High School in 1947 and from Harvard University in 1951 with a Naval ROTC scholarship. He served on the USS Compton in the Mediterranean as a Division Officer. He received his Medical Degree from Temple University in Philadelphia in 1958 and interned with the U.S. Public Health Service in Baltimore, Maryland in 1959. He was a resident at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Pittsburgh from 1960-1964. He became a board-certified pathologist with the American College of Pathologists. In 1965, he moved his family to Grand Rapids, Minnesota to be the pathologist for the Itasca Memorial Hospital (Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital), where he served until his retirement. He will be remembered for his wisdom, wit, and great sense of humor, as well as his kind and generous spirit. He was a loving and fun loving Father. God's Blessing and Happy Sails to you, Dad!
