Rud, Jean Tjornhom 93, of Minnetonka, passed away gently in her sleep on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Haven Homes in Maple Plain, three days following the peaceful passing of her beloved husband, J. Martell Rud. Jean was born in St. Paul, MN, to Lola and Floyd Herrick. In 1944, as a war bride, Jean married the late David Allan Tjornhom, Sr., and their union was blessed with four children. Jean and Dave raised their family in the Groveland Assembly Grounds in Woodland on the shores of Lake Minnetonka. As their children grew and started their own families, they, too, purchased homes in Groveland. It was a testament to the love and value of family that Jean and Dave instilled in their children that they would return to their roots. Sadly, Dave passed away in 1992. Groveland is home to another family with deep roots, and in 2006, many long-time neighbors became extended family when Jean and Marty Rud were married in a grand celebration. Jean passed away on the eve of their twelfth anniversary. Jean's faith in God was at the center of her life, and she cherished praising the Lord. She started every day by passionately praying for each one of her family members. Her love for her family and friends was enduring and unconditional. When you spoke with Jean you felt encouraged, uplifted, and valued. Jean was the perfect Grandma and GG to eleven grandchildren and twenty great- grandchildren, with one more on the way. A visit to Grandma's often included making playdough, popcorn balls, or her heavenly chocolate sauce. Jean enthusiastically shared her love for the piano with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, and no session at the piano was complete without her beautiful rendition of "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Jean is survived by her four children, David, Jr. (Rose) Tjornhom, Carol (Roger) Rovick, Keith (Bette) Tjornhom, and Laurie (John) Forshee; eleven grandchildren, Jen Idema, Jessica (Tim) Donohue, Stacy (Karl) Anderson, Tad (Amy) Tjornhom, Dana (George) Callahan, Ian (Robyn) Tjornhom, Amy (Scott) Chapman, Katie (Derek) Hasek, Rachel (Doug) Miller, Sara (Jesse) Izquierdo, Ashley (Steve) Christian; and twenty (soon-to-be twenty-one) great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Marty's children, Debbie (Rick) Moehring, Patsy (Greg) Bartley, Pam Oelrich, Bob (Judy) Rud, and many grandchildren. Jean's wonderful spirit will be celebrated at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Deephaven, on Friday, September 14, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service.
