Mendiola, Arturo T., Sr. Passed away peacefully on August 10th 2018, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on April 13th 1942 to Miguel and Rosario Mendiola, he was the youngest of nine brothers and sisters. He grew up in a humble upbringing on the island province of Samar. Through the support of his family, he graduated from Silliman University with an Associates Degree in civil engineering and San Carlos University with a degree in Accounting. While in school he met Leonida Yboa and they married January of 1971. In 1974 he immigrated from the Philippines to Minnesota with $200 borrowed from his brother. He worked hard to make a better life for his family in the U.S. Eventually he earned a job as an accountant for Pillsbury and later for HealthEast. And most importantly for Arturo, he paid back the money he borrowed from his brother. He was very proud of the life, home and family he provided for. Arturo was also a skilled carpenter, adhering to the 'measure twice cut once' philosophy, his capable hands remodeled not only his own home, but the homes of friends and family. A charismatic and gregarious individual, he loved trading stories over a shared feast. Survived by his wife Leonida Yboa Mendiola, two sons Michael Dennis Mendiola and Arturo Yboa Mendiola Jr. (and their families), brothers and sisters Gloria Mendiola, Luth Tenorio, Thelma Albay, Miguel Mendiola and Antonio Mendiola; along with two grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
