Mitchell, Robert G. Jr. age 74 of Medina, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly of acute myeloid leukemia on July 30, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was known for his passion for history, dry sense of humor, and love for his wife, three children, and two grandchildren. Bobby spent his childhood in Crystal Bay, Minnesota and Woodside, California before going to Trinity College in Connecticut. In 1968, he graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School, practicing law in New York and Minneapolis at Lindquist & Vennum from which he retired in 2009. He served on the Wayzata City Council from 1978-1980 and Medina City Council from 1985-1992. He enjoyed the opportunity to work with many people in the community as Mayor of Medina from 2014 until his passing. He served on the boards of the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library, Global Minnesota, and the Trust for Public Land. In October 1977, he married Lucy Crosby and raised three children together, David, Ned, and Ella. Bobby loved traveling with Lucy, from their honeymoon in South America, to stag hunting in France, to bicycling in Myanmar, and he cherished time with his family, especially skiing at Alta or making the most out of a meager hand in bridge. He was often seen on the sidelines at Blake and Orono sporting events, speeding around in his 1957 Corvette, or horseback riding at Sky Rock Farm. Bobby was curious and sharp, mischievous and clever, loving and gentle. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert G. Mitchell, Sr., and mother, Alice Tenney Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lucy, sons David (Jennifer) and Ned (fiancée Sarah), daughter Ella, grandchildren Isabel and Sumner, sisters Ann (Steve) Pflaum and Sally (Jon) Lebedoff, and numerous nieces, nephews, and loving friends. Memorial service to be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Friday, August 3, 2018 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library, Global Minnesota, or Westminster Presbyterian Church.
