Schulz, Niles R. (74) of Minneapolis, died on Tuesday, July 10th in a canoeing accident in the BWCA. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Don. He is survived by wife, Jane; children Sara, Claire (Cal), Daniel; grandchildren, Caroline, Adam, Richard; brothers, Dave (Kay), Ted (Sue), Chuck (Dorothy), Lee (Julie); sister-in-law, Betty (Don); and dear friend QingQing Chen (and family). After graduating from Zumbrota High School and Augsburg University, Niles left a legacy at Minneapolis Edison High School as an English teacher and football and wrestling coach. He was an active volunteer with many organizations: Edison Community and Sports Foundation, PFLAG, PFund, AIDS Rides, teaching conversational English to U of MN visiting scholars, and tutoring young readers at Minneapolis Pratt Community School. Niles was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved grandparenting, including the “grand-dogs” Marshall, Kyle and Maggie. He was an avid reader and bicyclist. In the words of favorite poet Robert Frost, Niles still had "miles to go," but through us his legacy rides on. In memory of Niles's legacy and generosity, contributions can be made to the Save the Boundary Waters Campaign or the Edison Community and Sports Foundation.
