Melvin, Everett Joseph (8/10/28- 5/2/19) (Air Force 1950-54) of Edina Ev earned a BS Degree in business and philosophy from St. Mary's. Later graduate degrees in social studies and Latin. Sent to weather school, to collect data on conditions and inform pilots. Flying from Japan to Honolulu and Johnston Island for inspections, he supervised weather program on Johnston Island in the Pacific. Ev's teaching career included 2 years in Canton, MN, and 34 years in St Louis Park. He taught next to Margaret Femrite and six years later they were married. Purchasing a home in Edina where Margaret taught, they had three children, Patrick, Kara, and Shawna, now six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Survived by brother Pat Melvin of Plainview. Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Earl and Duane. Everett was adventurous and had a variety of interests. During summers, worked at a ranch in MT at Glacier Park, and at the oil fields in CA and later toured Europe. He was an avid downhill skier, continuing to ski to age 88. He enjoyed and excelled in golf, playing forty 18-hole rounds at age 87. Ev had talents in painting, carving, drawing and wood working. In retirement years, the Melvins traveled to numerous countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. Nephew/godson, Msgr Thomas Melvin is officiating at Everett's Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Patrick, 6820 St. Patrick's Lane, Edina, MN. on May 7. Visitation from 9:30 to 10:45 AM, mass at 11 AM. Following lunch, Everett will be buried at St. Thomas of the Pines Church Cemetery located at Madden's Resort in Brainerd at 3:45 PM near the Melvin's lake home Gearty-Delmore 952-926-1615 gearty-delmore.com
