Holmquist, Glen V. Glen Victor Holmquist, 92, went to glory on March 24, passing away peacefully at Augustana Chapel View Nursing Home in Hopkins. He was born in Hallock, MN on August 17, 1925, to Victor and Emma Holmquist and raised in the Red River Valley. In 1949 he graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College and married Betty Engebretson. Together they raised six children. Glen worked as a teacher, coach and insurance salesman until 1966 when he accepted a call from the Lutheran Church in America. For 20 years he was a stewardship coordinator for the LCA, training countless ministers and congregants in first-fruits giving. In 1987 he retired to Lake Arrowhead in Rome, WI. Following Betty's passing, he moved to the Twin Cities, where he has lived since 2009. A prolific writer and reader, Glen penned letters, wrote poems and read the Bible daily. He enjoyed playing golf and cards, building three-legged stools and meeting people. His grandchildren affectionately called him "Silly Grandpa," and his family was in his thoughts and his presence throughout his final days. He was preceded in death by his beloved Betty, parents and six siblings. He is survived by his children: Michael (Sue), Minnetonka; Patty Price (Daniel), Tucson, AZ; Mark (Jill), Hopkins; Barb Young (Bill), Milwaukee, WI; Mary Grube (Kurt), El Cajon, CA; and David (Debbie), Janesville, WI, and 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The family thanks the dedicated medical and hospice staffs of Augustana Chapel View and Methodist Hospital for the care and comfort they provided him. Memorial service at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1400 S. Robert St., West St. Paul on Saturday, March 31. Visitation at 10 AM followed by service at 11. In lieu of flowers, gifts and memorials can be made to the Augustana Harvest Fund in support of ministries. Washburn-McReavy.com Strobeck Johnson 952-938-9020
