Gordon, Verona C. RN, PhD, FAAN Verona "Pep" Gordon (of Chaska) died peacefully February 13, 2018, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents Clara and Gunder Christofferson, husband A.H. "Bud" Gordon, five siblings including her identical twin, Verna "Kit" Peterjohn, and her daughter, Susan Abernathy. Known for tenacity, kindness, caring and inspiration, she achieved her Doctorate in mid-life becoming Professor of Nursing at the University of Minnesota. She was ahead of her time in education and research, and was dedicated to ensuring positive change in women's lives. Verona was the first female recipient of the Edgar M. Carlson Award for Distinguished Teaching while at Gustavus. She was the founder of "Insight" an innovative cognitive therapy program for women with depression. She is survived by her children, Candace Gordon (Tim McClellan), Beth (Sam) Sachs, Chris Lizée, Rob (Nancy Lange) Gordon, and son-in-law, Mike Abernathy. Her delight was her seven granddaughters, Leah and Sage Abernathy, Ellie and Abby Gordon, Tracy and Marit Lizée and Hadley Sachs. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, students and friends around the globe. She was inspired by nature and learning. Memorials preferred to the U of M Arboretum, Mt. Olivet WEST Music Ministry or an uplifting/empowering women's program in need. A Memorial service will be held on May 17, 2018 at Mt. Olivet (West Campus in Victoria) at 11:00 followed by a light luncheon.
