Evelyn Storberg (Storberg) Buetow

Buetow, Evelyn Storberg 95, walked that last portage to join her paddling partner, Harry on February 10, 2018 in her home overlooking Lake Superior in Silver Bay, MN. She grew up in the Macalester neighborhood, graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 1940 and the University of Minnesota in 1945. Evie met Harry at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan on Burntside Lake by Ely in the summer of 1939 and they married in 1944. They celebrated 59 years together. Their first canoe trip was for their honeymoon and her last one was when she was 80. They moved to Silver Bay in 1955. Evie loved canoeing, fishing, cooking, baking, a variety of music for playing and singing, knitting, reading, cross country skiing, church and community involvements. Her home was always open and the coffee pot on with something freshly baked unless it was 5:00 and wine time. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who welcomed each day as it came. Survived by children, Christine of Grand Marais, MN, David (Pat) of Charlotte, NC and Eric (Katie Madden) of Fairbanks, AK; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Visitation 1 hour prior to the 11 AM Memorial Service, Saturday, February 24 at Sychar Lutheran Church, Silver Bay, MN.
