Nymark, Barbara of Eden Prairie, MN, acclaimed concert pianist and educator, loving wife, mother and grandmother, age 81, died peacefully in Minneapolis on Saturday, February 3rd. Barbara performed as a soloist and accompanist at an international level. Critics praised her pianism, noting her astonishing technical mastery and expressive musical imagination. Her ability to educate and inspire future musicians was second to none. She earned her master's degree in music from the University of Minnesota, graduating cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Her expansive teaching career included professorial positions, curriculum writing, and guest lecturing nationwide. She taught as a professor at Concordia College, St. Olaf College, and Normandale Community College. She set generations of pianists in motion, and all continue to be grateful for her compassion and teaching. With lifelong involvement in the music community, Barbara was a former member and active alumna of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity with 50 Year Honors. She was an active member of Schubert Club, Thursday Musical, and Minneapolis Music Teachers Forum. She served as president of Thursday Musical from 1982-1984, and president of Minneapolis Music Teachers Forum from 1967-1969. In addition to her extraordinary musical career, Barbara shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with her husband Paul. Together, they raised their gracious son, John Nymark. Barbara's benevolence in the music world translated to her home life, as she was the most compassionate, attentive, and loving wife, mother and grandmother alike. Barbara is survived by her husband Paul, son John and his wife Amy; grandchildren John Paul, Mary Charlotte and fiancé Brian Cappelle, and Jamie Ellen. Memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on February 20, 2018 at First Memorial Edina Chapel, 7110 France Avenue S., Edina, MN 55435.
