Garwick, Henry "Hank" died peacefully on December 27th, 2017. Preceded in death by his wife T. Dorothea, son Gregory John, sisters Isora and Mary Ida, brother Kenneth. Survived by his brother John, sons and daughters Geoffrey, Jennifer, Kristin, and Jason, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Born January 1, 1923 at home in Dunn Center, North Dakota. Served in the Army Air Corp, '43-'45. Achieved Bachelor of Science Degree from the U of M in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Took early retirement from Honeywell after 25 years to serve, with his wife, as lay missionaries in India at Nave Technical Institute. Introduced many people to India & her people with yearly mission-based tours. Used his expertise to create and develop CTI (Compatible Technology Incorporated) and the Steeple People Surplus Store. At age 88 won an international competition for breadfruit processing. Collaborated in Haiti to build small businesses, utilizing breadfruit. Tireless champion of peace and justice, in world communities he served. A proponent of diversity and reconciliation with all faiths, races, and orientations. An inspiration to many. An active member of Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church (HAUMC) for over 50 years. He stayed in his seat to hear the organ postlude and contributed his strong bass voice to the hymns. Designated caramel roll baker for Friday morning men's group. Enthusiastic and capable chef in a variety of culinary styles including Chinese, Indian, and Vegetarian. Self-taught carpenter & designer who was always building something new. Long time supporter of the Minnesota Arboretum and general steward of nature. An avid gardener, lover of local produce & believer in soil improvement and renovation through composting. An outdoorsperson who enjoyed trout fishing at the family cabin near Frederic, WI. Memorial Service Feb 16, 11 AM at HAUMC 511 Groveland. Lunch to follow. Memorials to Hank & Dottie Garwick Mission Fund at HAUMC.
