Arey, Hugh Custer "Oz" age 90 of Glenview, Illinois (formerly of Berea, Ohio) passed away on December 23, 2017. Born February 3, 1927 in Excelsior, Minnesota, where his father was the town physician. Beloved husband of the late Kathryn Kay Arey. Loving father of Thomas (Mary) Arey, Cynthia (Heinz) Brinkhaus, and Molly (John) Snyder. Cherished grandfather of John, Paul, Heinz, Franz, Allinson, Christopher, Blake and Miller. Cherished friend, uncle and great uncle of many. Preceded in death by his parents Dr. Hugh C. and Mabel Lane Arey, brothers Dr. Stuart Lane (Evelyn) Arey and Dr. James (Harriet) Arey, and sister Jane (Edward) Thompson. Served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, the Air Force and U.S. Army Reserves after the war. 1952 graduate of the University of Minnesota. Enjoyed flying his Piper Cub. Member of the Quiet Birdmen. Sailed his first boat on Lake Minnetonka at age 14 and continued to sail with Kathyrn on Lake Erie. Longest-serving City of Berea Councilman for 20 years. 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shriners, Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, Mended Hearts Organization volunteer. Member of the Audubon Society, First Families of Ohio, Mayflower Society, Jamestown Society, Sons of the American Revolution. Avid skier and duck hunter. Always ready with warm hospitality and a quick wit, Oz will be missed by many. Visitation Friday January 12, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:00a.m. at Lakewood Cemetery - Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN.
