Drop-in legal help for veterans on Thursday

A free drop-in legal clinic for veterans will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at the Anoka Government Center, 2100 3rd Av., Anoka. Attorneys, county veterans services officers, child-support officers and staff from the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans will be on hand. They will be available to help vets with questions, legal forms and counsel.

Stormwater plan will be discussed

A meeting at 4 p.m. Monday, June 23, will give residents a chance to hear about and comment on Anoka County's Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan. The meeting will take place at the county Highway Department, 1440 Bunker Lake Blvd. NW, Andover. The plan is a document required by the federal and state governments that indicates how the county will work toward reducing pollution in stormwater runoff.

Coming up: Heritage Home & Garden Tour

The annual tour of historic homes and gardens in Anoka will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 13. This year's tour focuses on homes near the Mississippi River, east of the Rum River. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the tour. More 'Ghosts' tours scheduled this week

The next round of "Ghosts of Anoka" walking tours will take place Thursday, June 19, and Saturday, June 21. The tours start at 7:30 p.m. at the Anoka County History Center, 2135 Third Av. N., and last about an hour and a half. They are presented by the Anoka County Historical Society. Advance reservations are required; the cost is $7 for adults and $5 for youth. Distinctive 5K will aid Special Olympics

A "Run, Jump or Fly 5K" fun run will be held Saturday, June 21, to support Special Olympics Minnesota. Participants are invited to dress as their favorite superhero for the event, which will be held at West Palmer Lake Park, 7110 Palmer Lake Dr. W., Brooklyn Center. A 1K event for kids will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the 5K at 8 a.m. The registration fee is $25. You can register online at www.runjumpfly.kintera.org or at the park from 6-7:30 a.m. on Saturday.

All participants will receive a short-sleeved shirt, race bib, and hot dog and chips after the race. There will also be a costume contest between the 1K and 5K runs.

Former SEALs run leadership camp

Sealed Mindset, a New Hope-based self-defense training facility, is hosting the second annual Victory Games, a four-day camp designed to teach children leadership skills. The camp is run by former Navy SEALs and teaches children practical skills such as 911 calls, emergency medical skills, archery, martial arts, situational awareness, fitness and firearm safety. Community cookout Thursday at the Draw

The Draw Summer Event Series in Ramsey will feature Coburn's community cookout this week, set for 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at the Draw Amphitheater, 7401 E. Ramsey Pkwy. Attendees can get a free hot dog meal or a $4 rib-eye steak sandwich meal with a donation of five nonperishable food items. The ACBC food shelf will be at the site collecting donations. BOB-FM and the Shane Martin Band will provide entertainment.

Prostate cancer group will meet June 25

A prostate cancer support group will meet at 5:30 p.m. next Wednesday, June 25, at North Memorial Medical Center, 3300 Oakdale Av. N., Robbinsdale. Dr. Hengbing Wang, medical oncologist from North Memorial, will speak about advanced medical treatments for prostate cancer. There is no charge, and family and friends are welcome. Candidates wanted for school board

Residents interested in running for the Robbinsdale Area Schools board are invited to a seminar at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, at the Education Service Center, 4148 Winnetka Av. N.
