BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. — A Wisconsin prosecutor says no charges will be filed against three Jackson County sheriff's deputies in the fatal shooting of a suicidal man.
Jackson County District Attorney Gerald Fox said Tuesday that based on an investigation by the state Division of Criminal Investigation, the officers' use of deadly force was justified.
Authorities say Donovan Scheurich Sr. was shot and killed near Millston on Jan. 25 after he opened fire on the officers. The deputies were responding to 911 calls about a suicidal man who was making threats against law officers.
The deputies fired 11 shots, four of them striking Scheurich. The investigation found Scheurich had a blood-alcohol content of 0.332 percent and THC, an active ingredient in marijuana, in his system.
Sheriff Duane Waldera says the deputies followed police procedures.
