Although it has been known around these parts for months, it is sort of interesting news that the Domino Recording Co. waited until today – four days before the start of the South by Southwest Music Conference – to formally announce its signing of Night Moves. And there is actual news included in the announcement, too: The Minneapolis band will follow up SXSW by heading to Los Angeles to “complete work on their debut album” with producer Thom Monaghan, who has worked with similarly psychedelic, vaguely twangy bands Vetiver and Beachwood Sparks.
Monaghan has already completed a remix of the group’s heretofore best-known song, “Headlights,” which the famed, London-founded indie label is releasing as a 7-inch single with a flipside of the previously released “Horses.” You can hear the retouched version of “Headlights” below, included as part of Domino’s SXSW Soundcloud sampler. Both songs were included in the band’s briefly available, self-made debut record, “Colored Emotions,” which Domino still plans to re-release sometime over the summer. Exactly how much Monaghan and the band will update the original album remains to be seen, but it sounds like they’re going to work on a couple new songs, rework some parts in other tunes and probably remix the rest.
Domino also announced that Night Moves will be playing a handful of tour dates with Brooklyn buzz band Cavemen as well as some New York and Los Angeles gigs post-SXSW. And so it begins.
