First and second ring suburbs gaining minorities

The Twin Cities area is just a fraction of a percentage point away from having a suburb, for the first time, with more minorities than whites. Ninety-six percent white as recently as the Reagan years, Brooklyn Center has seen a dramatic and accelerating shift in its makeup. Its makeup today is extraordinary by Twin Cities standards: Racial and ethnic minorities have never come close to outnumbering whites even in the central cities.
