North Dakota is the nation's fastest-growing state fueled by the oil boom in the western part of the state that is drawing workers seeking to cash in on the prosperity. The U.S. Geological Survey said in May that the Williston Basin has between 4.4 billion and 11.4 billion barrels of oil that is recoverable with today’s technology. The April 2008 estimate was 3.65 billion barrels.
