Costly 3M cleanup
3M produced perfluorochemicals (PFCs) at its Cottage Grove facility from the late 1940s until 2002. Wastewater treatment plant effluent containing PFCs was discharged to the adjacent Mississippi River for decades, and sludge from the wastewater treatment plant and ponds that contained PFCs was also disposed on site.
