Map of foreclosures in rural counties
While the overall foreclosure rate is lower outside the Twin Cities metro area, some particular rural counties have recently seen the state’s highest foreclosure rates. They include a group of exurban counties just outside the metro area that were seeing surging property values at the time subprime loans and refinancings were being offered, often to borrowers with lower incomes and credit scores.
