NTSB investigators probing the collapse of the I-35W bridge have brought special focus to a long-corroded gusset plate in the structure’s L-11 section, where four steel support beams were joined. The L-9 and U-10 connections also appear to have been damaged before the collapse of the bridge, rather than during.
