Dad, 12-year-old son headed to Indiana hunting trip die when their small plane crashes in NJ

WOODBINE, N.J. - A small plane has crashed in southern New Jersey, killing a father and son headed to Indiana for a hunting trip.

The single-engine A200 Piper plane went down Saturday morning shortly after taking off from Woodbine Municipal Airport in Cape May County, about 20 miles southwest of Atlantic City.

The crash killed 53-year-old pilot Thaddeus Lazowski and his 12-year-old son, also named Thaddeus. No injuries have been reported on the ground.

New Jersey state police Sgt. Stephen Jones says the plane appeared to come straight down and ended up in a densely wooded area in Dennis Township, not far from the airport. The plane was registered to the dad.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and state police.
