After Sunday's vote, one issue was unresolved: when exactly Iraq's election would held.
Its constitution mandates that the vote takes place in January but does not specify which day.
The head of the Independent High Electoral Commission, Faraj al-Haidari, said he expected the vote to be held within a week of Jan. 16, the original date. Deputy Parliament Speaker Khalid al-Attiyah said it would probably be held on Jan. 21 or Jan. 23. A decision will be made after the election commission determines how many days will be needed to hold the vote, Al-Haidari said.
The law passed by a comfortable margin, with 141 of the 195 lawmakers present voting in favor.
