CHICAGO — A 6-year-old Illinois boy is continuing to improve 11 days after he spent hours buried beneath an Indiana sand dune.

Doctors at University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital say Nathan Woessner (WAYZ'-ner) is in good condition. He's been transferred from the intensive care unit to a general children's medicine unit at the Chicago hospital.

Dr. Barrett Fromme says the boy is eating well, is active and that the staples used to close a cut on the back of his head will be removed Tuesday.

The boy was rescued after being buried for more than three hours July 12 in the dune called Mount Baldy at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

Relatives say the boy hasn't mentioned his entrapment since coming out of a coma and starting to speak.
