MADISON, Wis. — University of Wisconsin senior quarterback Danny O'Brien has left the Badgers' football program.

The State Journal (http://bit.ly/165fWU2 ) says O'Brien confirmed his departure. The newspaper said O'Brien was home in Kernersville, N.C., when the Badgers started their seven-week summer workout program Monday.

UW-Madison Athletic Communications spokesman Brian Mason says he could not immediately confirm that O'Brien has left the program.

O'Brien arrived as a transfer from Maryland a year ago. He won the starting job coming out of preseason camp last year and held it for three games before he was replaced by Joel Stave.

O'Brien fell behind Stave and sixth-year senior Curt Phillips coming out of spring practices. In seven games for the Badgers, O'Brien completed 52 of 86 passes for 523 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.
