MADISON, Wis. — The executive director of University Research Park in Madison plans to retire later this year.

Mark Bugher has directed the non-profit research and technology park since 1999. The park partners with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation to commercialize discoveries and technologies. The 260-acre park is home to more than 125 companies and employs 3,600 people.

Before directing the research park, Bugher served as secretary of the state Department of Administration from 1996 to 1999 and as state revenue secretary from 1988 to 1996.

Incoming UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank is expected to appoint an interim director when Bugher retires in October. A national search for a new executive director is expected to begin in 2014.
