23 soldiers are killed in insider attack
At least 23 Afghan army soldiers were killed by a Taliban infiltrator while they were sleeping, officials said, the latest episode of enemy infiltration that has raised concerns about a new local military force billed as the hope for holding territory recaptured from the Taliban. The Taliban infiltrator, who was on duty at a military base in Ghazni Province, opened fire on his colleagues, wiping out almost the whole unit, officials said. The attacker then seized all weapons and equipment in the base and joined the insurgency.

The draft texts that emerged Saturday set off criticism from inside and outside the plenary room. By Saturday night, delegates were waiting for new drafts.

North Korea said that it had conducted “another crucial test” at a missile-engine and satellite-launching site, its second such test in a week as the country attempts to press the United States into further talks and new concessions. The test was conducted Friday night at the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground, a spokesman for the North’s Academy of Defense Science said. That was a reference to facilities in Tongchang-ri, where it also said it had conducted “a very important test” last Saturday.
