First same-sex marriage ceremony held
Ireland's first same-sex marriage ceremony was held in County Tipperary after new marriage legislation became official and after a historic referendum in May. Cormac Gollogly, a lawyer, married Richard Dowling, a financier. The wedding in Clonmel was witnessed by two people.
Parliament approves new prime minister
Parliament approved the government of Dacian Ciolos, who was nominated last week to replace Victor Ponta as prime minister. Lawmakers approved the new Cabinet by a vote of 389-115. Ponta resigned amid large-scale protests over a nightclub fire Oct. 30 in Bucharest that left 56 dead.
U.S. aid helps Asian nations confront China
President Obama, kicking off five days in Asia, announced that the U.S. would spend an additional $250 million over the next two years to help ensure maritime security for Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam to help them stand up to China's aggressive claims on the South China Sea.
Passengers accused of suspicious activity
Four passengers on a flight at Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport were asked to exit the plane after another passenger alerted a flight attendant of a passenger engaging in a "suspicious activity" on board. Spirit Airlines officials would not say what the suspicious activity involved.
Mining executive accused of criminal acts
Former Massey Energy Co. executive Donald Blankenship was accused in closing arguments at his criminal trial of being the "kingpin" of a conspiracy to evade mine safety laws at the site of a 2010 explosion that killed 29 workers.
