Two dead in mall food court shooting
A Florida man had "several pockets full of ammunition" when he targeted his wife in a shooting Saturday morning at a mall food court where she worked. Jose Garcia-Rodriguez, 57, of Palm Bay, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at Melbourne Square Mall, police said. The man's 33-year-old wife, Idanerys Garcia-Rodriguez, was hospitalized in good condition. Another man died in the shooting.
Murder charges in burned baby case
A woman who prosecutors say put her newborn baby in the middle of the road and set the child on fire has been charged with murder. Prosecutors said 22-year-old Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier was jailed Saturday in Pembertown Township on $500,000 bail. Prosecutors said the mother doused her baby with an accelerant Friday night, then set her on fire.
Congressional Dems on three-day visit
A delegation of congressional Democrats is visiting Cuba to discuss normalization of relations between the U.S. and the island nation. Delegation leader Sen. Patrick Leahy says that the lawmakers want to explore opportunities for greater cooperation and to encourage Cuban officials to address issues of concern to Americans.
Smoke shuts down Channel Tunnel
A smoky load being transported through the Channel Tunnel triggered an alarm, suspending all passenger and freight rail services between Britain and France. No injuries were reported. A spokesman for tunnel operator Eurotunnel said C02 alarms detected the smoke.
Suspects in custody in school massacre
Security services arrested five men in connection with the massacre at a Pakistan military school last month that killed 150 people, most of them children. The men, all non-Afghans, helped support the Dec. 16 assault in Peshawar.
