Car bomb a setback for Kurds, Arab allies
The newest U.S.-backed offensive against the Islamic State in northern Syria suffered a devastating setback when the extremist group detonated an explosive-laden vehicle near a Kurdish-led column of armored vehicles, an Arab militia commander said Monday. The Islamic State said the suicide bomber, with 5 tons of explosives, attacked a convoy of 70 vehicles Sunday, killing dozens of Arabs and members of the Kurdish People's Protection Units, or YPG.
Missing cargo ship is upright on ocean floor
Searchers confirmed Monday that a wreck found over the weekend belongs to the missing El Faro that sank earlier this month as it drifted powerless near a dangerous Category 3 hurricane in the Bahamas. The wreck — located 15,000 feet below the ocean's surface, intact and sitting upright — was found by searchers using sonar equipment over the weekend. Searchers deployed a remote-control vehicle that can operate at depths up to 20,000 feet deep. The vehicle is equipped with a high-resolution digital cameras.

Tiger bites intruder at zoo on Halloween
A woman sneaked into Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo on Halloween night, tried to pet a tiger and was bitten. The woman, identified as Jacqueline Eide, 33, suffered "severe trauma" to her hand and appeared to be drunk or under the influence of drugs, police said. She was taken to the Creighton University Medical Center for treatment and was cited for criminal trespassing. The animal was named Mai, an 18-year-old three-legged Malayan tiger.
