The Josh McDaniels sweepstakes might be getting too rich for the St. Louis Rams blood, but apparently that doesn't mean he's a lock to become the Vikings offensive coordinator.

The Rams have hit a significant snag in negotiations with McDaniels, according to ESPN, and the team has requested permission to speak to Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and Falcons assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave. Bevell already is set to interview today with Seattle for the Seahawks quarterbacks coach job, according to the network.

What's most interesting is that Musgrave reportedly will interview to become the Vikings offensive coordinator on Wednesday after talking to the Cleveland Browns today.

There had been an expectation that Vikings coach Leslie Frazier would have all of his assistant coaching jobs filled by today but that certainly won't be the case. What's unclear is if the Vikings also have balked at McDaniels' asking price and that's why they are considering Musgrave. Musgrave has had offensive coordinator titles in the NFL with the Eagles (1998), Panthers (2000) and Jaguars (2003-04). He favors a version of the West Coast system, according to this 2003 article in the Times-Union in Jacksonville.

Bevell has been in coaching limbo for a few weeks. Frazier informed him after the season that while he was keeping his job as offensive coordinator for the time being he still might be replaced. There has been speculation that Bevell could end up remaining on the Vikings staff as quarterbacks coach, if he's willing to accept the demotion. Kevin Rogers had been the Vikings quarterbacks coach but was let go by Frazier.

On another note, it's believed the Vikings are close to hiring Mike Priefer as their new special teams coordinator. Priefer had been with the Denver Broncos. Brian Murphy, who had been the Vikings special teams coordinator but was put in the same position as Bevell, was hired by the Carolina Panthers on Monday to run their special teams.
