On a milestone Monday for Nashville coach Peter Laviolette, goaltender Pekka Rinne stopped a penalty shot and made 35 saves as the Predators beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 in Denver.

Laviolette became the 20th coach in NHL history to reach 600 career wins and the third this season. He joined John Tortorella and Claude Julien.

Colorado was coming off a 7-1 win over Los Angeles on Saturday, but the scoring spree didn't carry over. The Avalanche hasn't won two straight games since late November.

Los Angeles 4, St. Louis 3: Jonathan Quick of the host Kings earned his 302nd NHL victory, fourth best among U.S.-born goaltenders.

Florida 6, San Jose 2: Frank Vatrano had a goal and three assists for a career-high four points for the host Panthers.

Note

Carolina forward Teuvo Teravainen agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $27 million. The 24-year-old Finn has 10 goals and 28 assists.
